Case Study

InfoPath Migration to Custom .NET Core HSE Software

Our client, a prominent manufacturing group operating multiple facilities, relied heavily on Microsoft InfoPath to manage their workplace incident reporting and Health and Safety alerts. With InfoPath reaching its end of life, their reliance on static forms became a critical bottleneck, exposing a severe lack of automated workflows, real-time alerting, and reliable audit logging. Recognizing the urgent need for a robust, highly available system tailored to their complex plant operations, they partnered with Artesian Software Technologies to spearhead this digital transformation.

We delivered a fully custom Incident Report and Safety Alert Application built on .NET Core 10 and SQL Server. This new platform completely replaces InfoPath, featuring automated multi-level approvals, dynamic task assignments, real-time MQTT notifications, and scheduled background alerts via Hangfire. It securely logs every action and utilizes a High Availability (HA) setup, ensuring total Health and Safety compliance across all manufacturing locations without any system downtime.

The Challenge

  • Microsoft InfoPath Retiring: The entire incident process relied on a dying platform with no upgrade path, putting Health and Safety compliance at serious risk.

  • Manual EHS Approvals: Without automated workflows, safety coordinators had to route every incident and task, causing severe delays.

  • No Real-Time Factory Alerts: There was no automated way to instantly notify workers or external factory systems when an incident or hazard occurred.

  • Missing HSE Attendance Tracking: Safety talks were managed off-system, meaning leadership had no digital proof that critical safety briefings were delivered.

  • Zero Compliance Audit Trails: Isolated InfoPath forms provided no reliable history of who approved what, making compliance audits incredibly difficult.

Our Solution

  • .NET Core & SQL Server Migration: Replaced InfoPath with a responsive MVC web app powered by SQL Server for structured data organization.

  • HA Setup Using Network Load Balancer: Ensured continuous uptime across all global plants by engineering a High Availability Network Load Balancer architecture.

  • State-Machine Workflow Engine: Engineered a dynamic state machine that automatically generates participants and routes Health and Safety incidents based on TaskDefinitions.

  • Centralized Serilog Audit Logging: Integrated Serilog with strict file upload validation to generate immutable, compliance-ready audit trails for every system event.

  • Hangfire & MQTT Notifications: Configured MQTT for real-time factory floor telemetry and deployed Hangfire for reliable asynchronous processing of SMTP notifications.

Business Impact

  • 100% InfoPath Dependency Eliminated: All Health and Safety workflows successfully moved off the retiring platform to a modern, future-proof .NET application.

  • 60% Faster Incident Approval Cycle: Automating task assignments entirely removed manual routing delays, cutting the average EHS approval time by 60%.

  • Continuous Uptime & Reliability: The HA Network Load Balancer setup guarantees the platform remains online, fast, and responsive 24/7, even during peak operational shifts.

  • Real-Time Alerts Across Factory Systems: MQTT integration guarantees that connected factory systems receive instant updates on incidents with zero polling lag.

  • Complete Audit Trail for Compliance: Centralized logging captures every single system event, giving safety teams a reliable, perfectly searchable audit history.

We were really struggling with our old system, nothing was properly tracked, and the software itself was being phased out. The Artesian Team completely turned things around for us. They built a new system that handles our safety incidents automatically from start to finish. For the first time, our safety team actually knows what’s going on across every single plant. — HSE & Operations Lead (Manufacturing Group)
